Grow Nasturtium
When we think of nasturtiums, we can’t help but picture the dreamy garden paths at Monet’s home in Giverny, just outside Paris. There, the flowers tumble freely from the borders and into the walkways, forming a carpet of color and charm.
This year at Zetas, we’ve chosen a delightful bushy variety for our seed collection – perfect for so much more than romantic garden paths. These cheerful flowers are ideal as border plants in beds or kitchen gardens, but they also thrive in balcony boxes and containers, making them a joyful choice for small-space gardening too.
Nasturtiums are easy to grow, incredibly rewarding, and entirely edible – both the leaves and the flowers add a peppery note to salads and summer dishes. We believe every garden should have at least one sunny spot for nasturtiums.
What You’ll Need:
-
Potting soil or garden soil (choose a big one for healthy looking plants)
-
A raised bed, flower border, or a sunny balcony box
How to Sow:
For best results, sow the seeds directly outdoors in late April or May, once the soil has warmed up. There's no need to start indoors – nasturtiums prefer to settle straight into their final spot.
-
Soak the seeds in water for a few hours (optional)
-
Sow 2–3 cm deep in well-drained, moist soil
-
Water gently and keep the soil damp until seedlings appear
Growing Tips:
-
Nasturtiums prefer light, well-drained soil
-
Avoid over-fertilizing – it may lead to lush leaves but fewer flowers
-
They love sun, but can handle light shade
Whether you’re growing in a large garden or a smaller pot on the balcony, nasturtiums bring beauty, bees, and a little spice to your summer.
Good luck – and happy growing!
