- CARE GUIDE
Radicchio 'Variegato di Castelfranco', also known as cicory lettuce, is excellent for harvesting in late autumn. It has a slightly bitter flavour that makes a nice contrast in salads. This classic Italian variety has beautiful, crisp leaves with a red-spotted creamy colour and a mild taste. The leaves fade on their own.
Sowing time: April-September.
Seed depth: 1 cm.
Location: Sun-half shade.
Colour: Variable.
Growing time: 7-14 days.
Development time: 65-110 days.

Radicchio grows best in cool weather and can be harvested late in the autumn or even in the winter. Sow directly in the bed from June to early July. Alternatively, sow indoors in April-May and plant out when the risk of frost has passed. You can also sow in the autumn for a spring harvest. Cover with a bucket or black cloth two weeks before harvest for a milder taste. Young leaves can be harvested as "baby leaves."
