- Description
Garlic 'Therador' is an early variety. It produces large garlic bulbs with 10-20 cloves. The foliage is plaitable. Ready for harvest between 15th-25th of July.
Our tips for planting!
Garlic, Allium sativum, is best grown in deeply cultivated, humus-rich, and nutrient-dense sandy soils. If garlic is planted in heavy, wet soil, it will rot during the winter.
The ideal planting time is from mid-September in northern Sweden, mid-October in central Sweden, and November in southern Sweden. Planting too early may cause the garlic to grow too much during the fall, which could make it more vulnerable to damage in winter.
Separate the bulb into cloves with the root side down, covering them with about 5 cm of soil. Space the cloves 10-15 cm apart, and leave 35-40 cm between rows. Use well-rotted compost or organic fertilizer when planting. Fertilize the garlic early, as soon as it starts sprouting. You can apply chicken manure or chrysan around the time of snowmelt, or use grass clippings to help retain moisture and add nutrients. You can fertilize a couple more times before midsummer. Garlic is nutrient-hungry and doesn’t tolerate drought.
Harvest when the leaves begin to yellow, typically from mid-July to early August. Don’t leave it in the soil too long, as the outer protective layer may split, risking mold infestations. Let the bulbs dry in a warm, airy place for about 2 weeks. Room temperature is best.
